 Question

Why doesn't God heal amputees?
Answered by Pastor Bob Wise

Answer:  First of all, let us remind ourselves that we  live in a world corrupted by sin.  Our current situation is that our world has been corrupted by sin because of the fall of Adam (Genesis 3:16-19).  There are many things and questions that we do not have an answer for.  But, we feel there is an answer for this particular question.

Though we are certified to redemption with Christ in eternity....while we are yet alive here...we are subject to a physical body which unfortunately sometimes has physical maladies.  God could heal every amputee if He so decided to, but, He does not and the reason is simple.  Paul prayed for the "thorn in his flesh to be removed", but God didn't remove it so that Paul would understand that a totally healed physical body was not necessary, that only God's Grace was what was important. By understanding God's perfect Grace, Paul was able to keep from becoming conceited with himself and was able to preach God's Grace in a more perfect manner (2 Corinthians 12:7-10.

Jesus mentioned to us in the Bible why a physical body is not as important and necessary as we might think.
"Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire" (Matthew 18:8-9).

As I mentioned above, God could heal everyone easily and some preachers along with their followers believe that God is Love and that He will and does heal everyone.  But, IF God's love was as they preach....NO-One would ever die....they would be continuously healed, never to be sick or if they had a horrible accident, even so much as to have death come upon them from that accident....God "would have to" heal them.  This is not scriptural at all.

So many preachers have deceived  people into believing they are "Faith Healers" but are actually just playing on their emotions.  Sure, everybody wants to be healed...that is natural, but not all are healed.  Take Joni Eareckson Tada as an example.  Joni was paralyzed and wanted to be healed so bad that she went to a crusade where the preacher was supposed to be a "healer".  Nothing helped...Joni was still paralyzed and confined to a wheel chair. Her experience at the healing crusade was devastating.  Joni explains it here: http://www.forgottenword.org/joni.html

Joni learned many things and foremost was that God is good and has a plan.  In her book "Joni", she says the following on page 190.... "The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced that God doesn’t want everyone well. He uses our problems for His glory and our good"

Joni and her husband, Ken Tada, have been married since 1982 and enjoy serving the Joni and Friends ministry together. On July 30, 2017 Joni will celebrate 50 years of living well in her wheelchair, a remarkable testimony to God's sustaining grace. source: https://www.joniandfriends.org/jonis-corner/jonis-bio/

God does still heal people today...this i truly believe.  But, God knows best.  When we pray for a healing....we are right to expect an answer to that request as we made it in "faith" as Jesus taught us.  But, sometimes God has other plans.  He surprises us with unexpected answers that when we look at it....realize that He was right all along.  His answer whatever it may be IS our answer to prayer.

So, Does God heal amputees?  He probably has at some point in time.  He healed the lepers: (Luke 17:12-14) and healed the man's withered hand along with raising Lazarus from the dead which surely is a much greater miracle healing than restoring a leg or arm. (John 11:1-44

But, restored limbs or not.  The thing to know and remember is God's Grace is Sufficient.

God WILL restore the amputee....maybe not in this present lifetime BUT most certainly if not now...in Heaven.  That is our guarantee from Him.  Our "restored bodies" are what we await. (I Corinthians 15:50-55)
