A person who hides the fact that they are evil, witha pleasant and friendlyappearance.
Someone who hides malicious intent under the guise of kindliness.
A dangerous person pretending to be harmless.
One who feigns congeniality while actually holding malevolent intentions.
Someone who is pretending to be something they are not.
Someone who purposely misleads for personal gain at the expense of someone other than themselves.
Here we see there are many facets to the meaning of Wolves in Sheep's Clothing. Keep in mind that NOT ALL preachers who teach deception and purposeful re-direction are doing so intentionally. Some are or have been misled by someone they have trusted in the past to be correct and Biblically sound teachers. To those particular preachers, I have much sympathy for them as they are similar to what the Lord said: "Forgive them Father, for they know not what they are doing"(paraphrased)
Signs of Wolves on Sheep's Clothing
Wolves misuse the scriptures. (2 Tim 4:3; 2 Pet 2:1-2, 12)
Wolves are proud. (2 Tim 3:1-5)
If they make ANY false Prophecy. Deuteronomy 18:20-22
They exhibit more emotionalism than reverence and humbleness.*
They claim miraculous healings but NO actual proof of those healings.**
* Most false preachers/teachers are very charismatic and the followers get so involved and caught up in the "feelings" that they forget to check what they are being taught against Scripture. ** There are a lot of healing Ministries around but none of them have actual proof of the healings. The majority of "healings" are simple things that cannot be substantiated. An example is stomach trouble, headaches, backaches, etc. I DO believe that there are genuine healings taking place in the world today, but the real ones are substantiated with real proof as the Lord would want so it would be a testimony to Him and not
man.
Actions to take
Pray for guidance and DISCERNMENT from the Lord.
Pray for the preacher/teacher.
Get others to pray with you for the preacher/teacher.
Talk to the Elders in a calm Christlike manner.
Talk to the person directly if no action by Elders.
Either remain and be a good example or find a new Church.
Warn others of this preacher/teacher, IF you know that you are correct about the teachings.
I do pray this information will help you in regards to discerning what a false preacher/teacher is and how to recognize one. There are many false preachers/teachers today and I pray you will not fall prey to their deceptions. As mentioned, some do not purposely mislead but are misled themselves so beware as the Lord says.
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to
warn every one night and day with tears.
