More than 15,000 video-gambling machines
may soon be in hundreds of bars and restaurants in Chicago.
Greg Goldner, who managed Mayor Richard Daley's campaign, is
attempting to get the City Council to lift a video-gambling ban.
John Kindt, professor at the University of Illinois, said the
expansion could impact the local economy and families.
"As people dump their money into these gambling machines," he said,
"they're not buying cars or refrigerators, computers or even food and
clothing for their kids."
