Today I want to discuss the book of life which is mentioned in Revelation and explain whose name is are in the book of life and who's names have been blotted out.
In Revelation 17:8 and Revelation 13:8, these verses are a a lot of times referred to when talking about whose names were not written from the creation of the world know when we look at these verses along with some others in psalms and the again in Revelation 3 and Revelation 22 I believe it means that all the names of mankind are written in the book of life, but later some are blotted out because they rejected Christ. I used to believe that one's name was only written in the book of life after they accepted Christ as your Savior.
After research prayer reading the Bible and also from an article I read some 1415 years or so go by the Berean Call staff, Dave Hunt and Mr. McMahon I have come to the conclusion without a doubt that our names are in the book of life until we reject Jesus and then henceforth him blotting our name out of the book
Revelation 17:8 says: the beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
Revelation 13:8, says, and all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
Then we look back at Psalm 69:28, it says let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous. Then if we look back again at Revelation 3:5, it says, he that overcomes, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my father and before his angels. Then once again in Revelation 22:19, it says, and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
I think that makes it really clear that people's names were arty in the book and that later some were blotted out in other words removed from the book of life. They were blotted out or remove one by one as each individual rejected Christ and were no longer in the book.
If we look way back to Exodus 32:31 – 33, we find reference to the book of life. In Exodus is says: so Moses returned to the Lord and said, oh, what a great sin these people have committed; they have made gods of gold for themselves. Yet now, if you would only forgive their sin, but if not, please blot me out of the book that you have written. The Lord replied to Moses, whoever has sinned against me, I will blot out of my book.
I find it interesting that so many times and for so many years I have been taught that when I except Jesus as my savior I will get my name written down in the book of life and that's always been something that I looked at and I guess I would say it was a goal that I certainly wanted to accomplish along with my salvation because the book of life's was so important that naturally I wanted to be there I want to be listed in that book when the time comes for Christ to read the names in the book I had no idea that my name was already in the book but it could be blotted out if I rejected Jesus Christ as my Savior.
I agree with the article written in 2004 from the Berean Call ministry that it certainly shows us from all of these above mentioned verses that there's only two possibilities. One possibility is that everybody's name is written down in the book of life which shows without a doubt that God certainly wills which is desires all to be saved which is something that we know to be from the Bible and that therefore he wrote all the names down in the book and only until they reject Christ were their names blotted out. Now the other possibility number two, is that when a person gets saved his name is placed into the book of life the first time and that if he rejects price at a later date only then will his name be
blotted out. I know there's a lot of Baptist Calvinist friends of mine who will disagree with what I'm saying. I know that Calvinist you know they claim that the God only intends disable select elect but all of these verses in my opinion show totally different. Know what I mean by that is is that Baptist Calvinist believe that God only intends to save you know the elect only and that also they believe that you have eternal security. But these verses prove that your name had to be in the book 1st before it can be blotted out there for recording these verses according to the Bible even all way back to Exodus all the names are in the book to start with which means that there are no elect God wills that
everyone be saved that's his desire and if his desires for all to be saved then how can he also have a desire that only the elect be saved.
It also proves with these verses without a doubt that if your name can be blotted out of the book of life then no one has eternal security or their name couldn't be blotted out. Once a person is saved in the mind of Calvinism there never to be taken away after that there's no way their name can be taken out of the book of life but the Bible says totally differently.
Now, we can clearly see from these above verses that when the end of history here on earth anyway comes, there will be a book of life and in that book some names will be written in some names will not appear. So we have to ask ourselves from looking at all of this whose names are blotted out, whose names are no longer there.
I contend that the names not in the book are the ones who refused to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. Those not written in the book are the ones who failed to yield to the Holy Spirit and because of this sin there is no forgiveness. In Mark 3:28 we read well let's go back to Mark 27 – 29, indeed, no one can enter a strong man's house to steal his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can plunder his house. Truly I tell you, the sons of men will be forgiven all sins and blasphemies, as many as they utter. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of eternal sin.
We can also look at Luke 12:9,10, but whoever denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God. And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
I pray this article has helped you to understand a little more about the book of life and who's in the book and who is not in the book.
This article is not a condemnation against Baptist or any Calvinist. It is meant simply as a lesson from the Scriptures on what one particular topic means.
